Loren Martin Hintz built the Irish American Post around his love of Ireland and its people. The free paper reached readers in Milwaukee and across the Midwest, carrying stories of Ireland and the diaspora.
He helped establish Milwaukee’s Irish Fest and served as its public relations director. The Hintz family welcomed Irish musicians and storytellers into their home during the festival’s early years. Martin died in 2020; his writing and his work with the Post remain part of its history.
The original scholarship invited creative essays from middle school and high school students, with monetary awards for selected entries.
